Science Time

As part of our fire safety week we are learning all about how to keep ourselves and others safe from fire.

Today we did an experiment in class to see what a fire needs to survive.

We learnt that oxygen is a big part of a fire thriving and the importance of having a fire blanket in our houses.

We lit the candles.

Then at the same time we placed two different sizes jars over the candles.

We recorded the amount of time it took the flame to go out. We bigger jar lasted longer in all three tests.

We also learnt that it is usually carbon dioxide gas that is in fire extinguishers as it will smother the fire just like what happened to our candles.

As part of our homework we are reminded to test your smoke alarm every week!
