Lithuania, by Ileta

Lithuania
Lithuania is a small country in Europe. The capital is Vilnius. The population is 3 million.

Money
Lithuania used to have Litas but they changed it into euros. They changed it 1st of January 2015.

Tradition
In Lithuania they don’t celebrate Halloween, they celebrate Saint Day. They go to graveyards and put candles on them to remember the person who had passed away.

World War II
Lithuania military, known as the Forest Brothers, began guerrilla warfare against the Soviet forces as soon as the front passed over them in 1944, and continued an armed struggle until 1953. The core of this movement was made up of soldiers from the Territorial Defense Force who had disbanded with their weapons and uniforms and members of the Lithuanian Freedom Army, established in 1941. The underground had extensive clandestine radio and press. Thousands of people engaged in active and passive resistance against the Soviet authorities. The various resistance organizations eventually united under the Movement of the Struggle for the Freedom of Lithuania , issuing a declaration of independence in 1949 that would ultimately be signed into law by the independent Republic of Lithuania in 1999. The most famous of these partisans is probably Juozas Lukša (yo-zas luk-sha), author of several books during the resistance and the subject of a recent film.
While armed resistance ended in the 1950s, non violent resistance continued in various forms (e.g. through Lithuanians living abroad, the Catholic press, safeguarding local traditions and the Lithuanian language, the Sąjūdis (sa-ju-dis)movement, etc.), until 1991 when Russia recognized the independence declared by Lithuania on January 13th, 1991.

01:25 a.m. – Upon arrival in the vicinity of the TV tower, tanks start to fire blank rounds. This causes many nearby windows to shatter and lifelong hearing loss or deafness in some of the protesters.
·         01:50 a.m. – Tanks and soldiers encircle the TV tower. Soldiers fire live ammunition overhead and into civilian crowds gathered around the building. Tanks drive straight through lines of people. Fourteen people are killed in the attack, most of them shot and two crushed by tanks. One Soviet Alfa unit member (Viktor Shatskikh) is killed by friendly fire. The youngest person died was only 21 years of age.

Candyfloss , by Leah O'Neill

Hi my name is Leah.Im going to talk about the book Candyfloss,it is a brillant book by Jacqueline Willson. It is a mix between a heart warming story and adventure of destiny.I will give a little summary. So a girl called Flora a.k.a Flossie, loves her dad ever so dearly ,but she lives with her mum and her boyfriend. Her dad owns a cafe , called Charlies Cafe but the C fell of the word Charlie so it looks like it is HARLIES CAFE.Floss woke up with a baby on her bed and a cake in her face and her mum and her mums boyfriend singing happy birthday. She was so happy. She got a set of mini gel pens with there own little note book,a pair of blue jeans,a t-shirt with a koala bear and love hearts, and a little mini pullalong suit case. Then her mam said that there was one more surprize she handed her an envelope, she was looking quite nervous.Floss kept thinking her mum was handing her money or somthing like that but no she got no money just a card ,before she even opened it her mum asked her if she liked it she had only got the card out so far but when she figured out she was going to Australia, she wasn‘t quite sure how to feel. All she could say is“DAD’S COMING TO RIGHT ?“ but sadly he was not. Her bff Rhiannon had bought her a dimond  bracelet“it‘s real dimonds“Rhainnon bragged .She only did that because Margaret was around.she began to  tell Rhiannon about what she got for birthday ,everything! She got  such a shock when she saw her dad’s van outside her school. He jumped out of his van and gave her a hug so tight that she felt like she could burst. He brought her to the cafe. The usual customers were there .They went to the kitchen. Her dad didn‘t have much money so she wasnt expecting really expensive presents.she had got a pair of high heels,a weird old bridesmades dress, and a hand made princess crown .Then her dad made a cake with her after she had put on her presents they made it as pretty as possible .They gave all the customers some cake as well.Mr.Chimp asked what the occasion was. They explained it was her birthday . In the end she has to live with her dad because she does not want to go to a different school and Rhiannons mum was trying to make Floss like her own child. And her dad finds true love and Floss want her dad‘s new girlfriend to dye her hair pink.

A Busy Week in Kilcoskan.

Hello there, welcome back to our blog! We have had a busy week in school. We started our architectural work last week. We designed and constructed sky scrapers and hotels. The architectural awards will be hosted on Friday, with the winner of the most creative design being announced.

Here's some photos of our buildings:

We are reading the book 'Wilderness'  by Roddy Doyle. We created life size character profiles using adjectives to describe the main characters in the book. Stay tuned for a full summary of our novel coming soon.

Lastly, very exciting news! We created these Class Dojos in art. They are based on a points system. If you gets lots of points you get a homework pass, a sweet or even a class party. Anyway, teacher Valerie put this picture online, and the creators of Class Dojo in America saw it, retweeted it and said we are very talented! Our art work made it all the way to the Class Dojo head office!

And as always, a bit of yoga to unwind. :)

Lava Lamps in Science

There was great excitement in school this afternoon. We made lava lamps! We made these during science. We were learning about the density of oil and water. This experiment was to show the properties and characteristics of these materials, and to prove that oil is less dense than water. We went outside to test a lava lamp and it exploded! We got quite a fright when we heard the bang!

The lava lamps are so simple to make. Here's what  you do:

1. Fill a bottle to the half way mark with water.

2. Add vegetable oil.

3. Watch and take note of the reaction.

4. When it stops bubbling, add food colouring of your choice.

5. Again, record the reaction of the materials.

6. Lastly, add the alka seltzer tablets. (only add a quarter of a tablet at a time)

7. Sit back and watch a lava lamp take shape!

Oh the suspense!

What's going to happen next!

Tada!
