Kilcoskan Grand Prix!

Not so long ago, you could be forgiven for thinking that you had just arrived in Monaco, when you were actually in the 5th & 6th senior classroom in Kilcoskan National School! That's right, we had our own Kilcoskan Grand Prix!

We used different sized and shaped balloons and let them travel along different materials (string, thread, wool) to see which could travel fastest!

There was a lot of action down in the pit lanes!

The engineering teams were involved in deep consultations to make sure that everything was just right...

Drivers, start your engines...

After an initial false start, we finally got a winner with an all female team...and who said women couldn't drive!! ;-)

KASA - Kilcoskan Aeronautics & Space Administration

We formed carbon dioxide by mixing some common household items such as vitamin C tablets or Alka-Seltzer, with the following liquids...vinegar and water (hot and cold) inside an old camera film canister. The pressure produced by the gas forced the canister up into the air!

Step 1. Secure the tablet in the canister...

Step 2: Add the liquid...

Step 3: Mix the liquid with the tablet...

Step 4. RUN!!!

Step 5: Watch your rocket take off...

Anemometer

Following the winter storms we decided to construct some anemometers...here's how we did it!

Writing to Socialise...

We're a very social bunch up in 5th & 6th class (our teacher can verify this!) so we decided to do a bit of writing to socialise!

If you place a pair of binoculars in front of your screen you might be able to read our emails and postcards! ;-)

Morton Stadium Santry

Just before the Easter break we went to Morton Stadium in Santry to compete in the Fingal Athletics League Finals. It was a great experience to run around the track that Australian Herb Elliott once broke the world record for the mile on back in 1958!

As they were long runs, 5th & 6th class began their races outside the stadium and finished up inside!

The crowd roar with delight!!

That's a first place finish for Kilcoskan...I think you can almost see second place in the distance!! ;-)

Some future Herb Elliotts!!

Fruity Fortnight & Fitness Fortnight...

What a busy fortnight...but we all looked great after two weeks of exercising and healthy eating! Have a look at some of the fun things we got up to!

Our daily exercise regime!

Looks as though some of 5th & 6th class
were attempting the Haka!

...everybody was kung fu fighting...

We checked our pulse every day. Some of us became very concerned when we couldn't find one...but we all agreed that it was much easier to find our pulse after exercising!

We'll pass on all royalties to Pharrell Williams (or Billy Farrelly as he's known as in Dublin)...we promise! :-)

Home-made vegetable soup using nothing but carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, onions, leeks, celery, bay leaves, vegetable stock and water!!

Master Chef 2014 Finals!

Who'd have thought something so healthy
could be so tasty!!

We also tried lots of exotic fruits! Is aubergine
a fruit or a vegetable????

One brave volunteer ate a raw lime...look closely, not one tear streams from those brave eyes!!
