Crazy Science Lab

As part of our Halloween themed day we took part in some spooky themed science experiments.

We made some witches brew. The foam was really creepy bubbling over the cup!

We tried to make Frankin Worms but they didn't work out for us!

We made some Ghost hands. They turned out really well!

We even experimented with making some static electricity.

We had a ball getting hands on and experimenting with the amounts of the ingredients to make the spooky experiments! Happy Halloween everyone!

Hyacinth Experiment

We started an experiment today in which we hope to see the effect on the distance from water on the growth of Hyacinth bulbs.

We put three bulbs on top of three plastic bottles. We filled up the bottles with water to three different levels: 10cm, 8cm and 6 cm high.

We need to leave them in the dark press for a week then we can take them out and leave them on the windowsill.

The bulb is unique in that it doesn't need soil to grow as it has all the food it needs in itself. All it needs in water!

Check back to see how they are getting on!

Maths Week 2016

We had fun trying to figure out some puzzles as part of Maths Week this week.

One of the puzzles we worked on was based on trying to get a straight row & diagonal row to equal 38. But we can only use the numbers 1-19 once!

Halloween 2016

Today was the last day before our Holidays. We got all dressed up!

As a special treat today since we have worked so hard and earned all our marbles we got make pizza.

We started to get into the Halloween mood today here in 5th/6th.

We imagined what some pesky witches' cats would be getting up to and created some Peek A Boo cats.

When all of our work was put together we think it really stands out.

We made some more art today.

We even made some crazy pumpkins!

Conker Competition 2016

We had the final of our conker competition today. We had the heats at our harvest festival day. We had the semi finals and finals today.

After all the rounds and close calls we got our results! One of our very own won the senior cup!

Energy Science Talk

We had the chance to listen to an interesting scientist here in Kilcoskan today.

She was from SEAI- sustainable energy authority of Ireland. She gave us a very interesting talk about about energy, where it comes from and how we can mind it.

We got to take part in some fun experiments and play some games.

We learnt about how energy is transferred.

We learnt about how we can great a light with only a potato and some wires.

When we all had a chance to do some experiments we played a game in which we had to remember all the new facts we had learnt. It was great fun!

Harvest Fair Day 2016

We were blessed with the weather today for our Harvest Fair Day. It started off raining very heavily but then it cleared up and we got to have lots of fun outdoors.

We created our Harvest themed banners again this year and used them to decorate the yard.

We had a blast playing in the hay at break time!

After lunch some of the Kilcoskan Parents came in to watch our concert. Each of the classes put on a mini show based on the Harvet theme.

5th/6th and Teacher Eoin's class came together to do two dances.

The first dance is done in a group of four facing four and danced to jigs.

Our next dance was in pairs. We moved around in a circle motion.

We had good fun learning and practicing the dances for today. We will add these new two to our bank of dances that we know.

Autumn Themed Art

We used sponges today to create the background for our art work today.

We used a selection of Autumn colours to paint an unique background.

Over the background we placed an outline of an Autumn tree. The tree is in shadow and we can only see the strong outline of its bark.

The finished product is quiet effective and really gives the classroom an Autumn feel.
