Visit to the Garda Station

Today we were in Finglas to visit the local Garda station.

We had our own Garda tour guide who brought us round the station. We got to see inside the cells where people are held while being questioned.

Then we got to see the interview room where the interviews take place. We got to see the recording equipment and cameras.

Next we explored the importance of taking finger prints. First we saw the old way of taking them with an ink roller.

Then we saw the new computer machines that take your fingerprints nowadays.

The Order of Malta was at the station today too. We saw a very interesting video about the importance of CPR.

Next we went back outside and got to explore the different sections on show in the yard.

We got to see the inside of a patrol car.

Then we met the mounted unit horses. We learnt about the training that the horses go through and where they are used.

Another one of the displays was from the Army. They had a big display of the different equipment that they use in their work.

The men from the army were very helpful in answering all our questions about their equipment and jobs.

We even got to see the robot that they use!

They had a very big truck to carry all of their equipment. They told us that the majority of the jobs that they need done in the army are done in house. They do all of their own training. They even train individuals from armies from other countries.

Next we got to explore more of the vehicles in the yard.

This is us inside the truck used to carry people from prison to court.

We saw inside the ambulance. We even got to try out the trolley!

We also had a go at practicing our CPR. A very important skill for all of the community to have.

The civil defence had their power boat at the display also. It is a huge boat that does very important work helping in rescue missions.

We got to practice our Alfa radio talk. We got very good at it!

We had a blast today and learnt lots about the emergency services that do such important work.
