5th and 6th Class, January 2016

Hello everyone!
Happy New Year! We are back to business as usual in school. We have been studying report writing. We are beginning with animal reports, and next we will move on to write factual reports based on countries. We each chose a different animal. We had three minutes each to present the most important points of information about our animal in front of the class, being mindful of the public speaking rules. (make eye contact, don't turn your back to the crowd, be loud and proud!)

We learned about China and the Chinese New Year and we made these lanterns. We also explored Chinese symbols.

The girls enjoying DEAR time:

The Kilcoskan Drama Society meet every Friday afternoon during golden time:

This week we started to learn about the Great Irish Famine. We are exploring the causes and effects of the famine, specifically the long term effects the famine had on Ireland, Liverpool and America. Our starting point was to brainstorm and figure out what we already knew about the famine.

We were working with clay in art today to make cottages similar to the cottages people lived in during the famine:

In other news, Kilcoskan NS are taking part in the Peace Proms Orchestra Concert this February. Children from 4th, 5th and 6th class will be heading to the RDS on the 6th of February to perform. We have been practicing a lot. We attended a workshop this week in Swords, and we performed with 2500 other students!
Here we are practicing:
